Camping

Kid's Camp at The Ark Church was so much fun!  We loved working hard, hosting Lupe, the children's director at Community Christian Church in Arequipa, Peru, and especially being with the children.  Around 600 kids attended camp along with 250 volunteers!

Our theme this year was HEROES: we can all be true superheroes and live lives that are useful and meaningful.

Our camp verse was 2 Peter 1:8 - If you keep growing, it will show that what you know about our Lord Jesus Christ has made your lives useful and meaningful.

Matt taught chapel each day centered on 2 Peter 1: 5-7.  Monday we talked about goodness & understanding.  Tuesday we talked about self control & patience.  On Wednesday we talked about devotion to God and on Thursday we talked about concern for others & love.

The kids were challenged by the stories of Ruth as she was good to Naomi, David as he patiently waited for the kingship, Daniel as he did what God had called him to in spite of his circumstances, and Jesus as he became the ultimate superhero by loving us & dying for us.

For kids camp, we had a special visitor!  Lupe, the children's director at Community Christian Church in Arequipa, Peru came to spend the week with us.  She served in all areas at camp, helping out in administration, attending head counsellor meetings, greeting campers & their parents, bonding with 1st and 2nd graders by spending a day with campers, and even helping out in food preparation.  Lupe was able to gain a new understanding of what we mean when we talk about Kids Camp at The Ark.  She returns to Peru with new vision and ideas of how to reach children and conduct a great kids camp.  Thank you to all who invested in Lupe and her experience with us as camp!

Hi Matt and Kelly! Welcome back to the USA! It was so fun to read about the Kid's Camp and also hear about it first hand from your mom. So glad she could come down to spend time with you. Looking forward to seeing you when you come to OKC. Blessings, Janet Kopke
